FRNs

Small Size $1000 & $500 Federal Reserve Notes (FRN's) were printed for Series 1928, 1934 and 1934A.

The 1928 Series have the popular clause "Redeemable in Gold on Demand" printed on them and are much more rare than the 1934 and 1934A Series.

The $500 notes have William McKinley (25th President) printed on them and the $1000 notes have Grover Cleveland (22nd and 24th President) printed on them.  

These regularly issued High Denomination notes were last printed in 1945 although they continued to circulate until 1969. On July 14, 1969 the Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve System announced that due to lack of use, High Denomination notes would be discontinued immediately. All High Denomination notes that are turned into banks are forwarded to the Federal Reserve and Destroyed.

A handful of Specimen notes were also printed for Series 1934B and 1934C. None of these Specimen notes have been seen or are accounted for in the census. 

There were twelve issuing districts for Series 1928, 1934 and 1934A $1000's & $500's with the following exceptions:  There were no 1934A Boston $500 FRN's, and there were no 1934A Dallas $1000 FRN's.
